Warm Ears Taos Hat

I finished a fun project... a free pattern for a hat made with Taos yarn. I have never used this yarn and I like it. This hat was an easy, fun project that only took one skein of yarn. Plus, I got to use several different techniques. I wondered how it would look on because, to me, it looked kind of like a circus hat or something. But, it looks really good on my daughter. The pattern is from Crystal Palace. This project can be done in a day or two days, very quick.

I have made this hat too. I found the directions easy to do but confusing to follow. My hat is cute but doesn't look like the free pattern picture. I thought that when you got to the slip as for a short row and then reverse knitting direction that if it were knit then the mini cables section folded up over the years and that the wrong side became the right side. but then it doesn't look like the picture. What did you do at that part? the only way that it made sense was to purl and keep the right side as the right side. I have been knitting for 40 years and have much success in many different patterns, but this one kind of threw me a loop. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Dawn,

Would love to see a picture of your hat. Once you finish the mini cables you purl a row (this helps with the flip), do your 1x1 ribbing and when you do the slip/wrap and reverse your knitting you should be able to fold the hat up so the mini cables are showing. I'm not sure how you are doing your slip/wrap, you should slip your first stitch, wrap the yarn around and then slip that same stitch back onto your left hand needle and turn your work to start the reverse knitting. I've made two now and they both turned out perfect. It's hard for me to say without seeing your work but I hope that helps. If not, let me know and I'll try to help you out more the best I can. Thanks!
